This year I had to make some modification on my bow since I have shoulder injuries that need to heel. In the list, I reduce the bow mass weight and had a bunch of limbs savers everywhere on my bow ro reduce vibration without affecting tuning and accuracy of my Mathews Conquest 4.
So in the list, I bought a BackStop from Vibracheck, similar to the STS system.
I just need to shoot a couple of arrows to realize that this gadget wasn’t good for me at all. It didn’t reduce the vibration and the noise of my bow, worst thing is that the tuning change drastically.
Then I try it out on my hunting bow, a Mathews Drenalin LD and got the exact same results. Something to keep in mind is that I have a 31″ draw length, my experience in tuning bows show me that small draw length archer are the one who can have good results with this piece of equipment but before putting new gear on your bow, do some testing to see if anything has been change in a negative way. It can cost you precious points.
From my testing, the String Tamer from Norway and the Dead Stop de Mathews are better string stopper. They don’t change how the bow tune and the worst I got is widder groups at 70m with my Conquest 4.
Here are the results in the paper, it really show what you can see in a slow-mo video, the arrow is still nocked when the string hit the STS and then, the nocking point is moving lower since the STS become the pivot point!!! slow-mo video
